In spring 2016 Louise Giovanelli had her very first solo exhibition at Grundy Art Gallery. The exhibition was titled From Here to Here and comprised of new paintings all made in response to works from The Grundy Art Gallery Collection.

In the 10 years since that date, Giovanelli has become one of the most celebrated painters of her generation, with a full schedule of exhibitions in high profile galleries all over the world; representation by high-level commercial galleries and inclusion in many national and international public and private collections. Even the most cursory research will reveal how significant Giovanelli’s work is considered to be in current conversations about painting or how influential her practice is to a whole generation of newly emerging painters.

What is less publicly evident however, is the story of how Giovanelli evolved artistically and professionally to become the artist that she is today.

A decade later, Giovanelli’s second solo exhibition at Grundy Art Gallery in Blackpool will start to tell that story. Conceived by Grundy’s Curator, Paulette Brien and developed with the artist herself, From Here to Here to Here, will unfold across a series of chapters that use specific artworks, archival materials and moments in time as their starting point.

In a full circle moment, From Here to Here to Here, concludes with Giovanelli handing over the Grundy exhibition baton to the next generation of emerging painters, through the inclusion of work by graduates of Apollo Painting School
