Sweet Factory is a vibrant and playful project by Liverpool-based Disabled artist, Linny Venables. It celebrates rich, shared histories of sweet making, working-class food traditions, and seaside culture.
Drawing a line between the process of glass making (liquid sand) and sweet making (liquid sugar), this exhibition thematically links the golden beaches of Blackpool to the town’s history of rock and ice-cream making. Linny’s own confectionary-inspired glass sculptures will be presented, alongside new sweet-themed artworks made by Blackpool residents.
Developed in workshops with LeftCoast at Wash Your Words, (The Langdale Library and Laundry Room) and with artists from the pARTnership, (Grundy’s learning-disabled artist development project), these new pieces will be presented alongside social history items on loan from Showtown History Centre and archival objects sourced from local sweet and ice-cream factories.
